Contest Brief

We currently need an update to our cartoon character mascot. Originally created 30 years ago, it needs to be redesigned and updated.

The mascot is a pelican. A tropical bird from the Pacific Coast of Mexico.

We need at least 8 different poses (body positions). Depending on price, we may do up to 25 poses. This contest is only for 1 position. We understand the 1st pose will cost more since the character needs to be redesigned, a lot of work will go into getting the details right (eyes, personality, body/head ratio, etc.). We included as many details as possible to prevent redesigning. Please expect there to be modifications.

Once we like the character, you will be paid for this first illustration. Then, we will hire you to immediately create 8 additional poses of the same character. We can do it on a per/pose basis. With the understanding that each additional pose will cost about $20USD each

If we continue to like your work ethic, we will do a total of 20 poses of the same character.

There is a possibility we will create a second character. A flamingo. Still undecided. If we decide to create the flamingo, it will be a matching style as the pelican (They are friends)

Image format

The cartoon vector needs to have a transparent background as it will be used on various marketing materials such as website and brochures.

The cartoon vector can have supporting background items such as waves in the water, or a palm tree, but these background items cannot overpower the image, or look as if they are inside the "square" images border.

Must be a scaleable vector in a commercial format such as Photoshop or Illustrator, and must also provide a transparent .png in high resolution (about 2500x2500 pixels).

- I am attaching samples of quality that I am looking for.

- I am also attaching samples of UNACCEPTABLE designs. It needs to look professionally done.

- I am also attaching the current mascot and many of his poses so you know what I am referring to.

- Before you begin, I will email you a zip file with many more samples of what we want and don't want. I will also include many more variations of each pose we are looking for.

Character Personality

The pelican mascot must:

1. Must show great emotion and personality (Very happy, very excited, very motivated). It must have facial expressions with life in its eyes, but not over exaggerated.
2. Must not show aggression
3. Must have unique poses doing various activities (swimming, tennis, basketball, yoga, zumba, etc)
4. Must be Uniform. Each pose must be proportional to each other. Can't look as if they are 2 completely separate mascots. The integrity of the design must be uniform across each illustration.
5. Lot of emphasis in facial expressions, body language and eyes. Since the character does not have a voice.

There are 21 poses below. #10 is for 3 distinct poses.

2. Relaxing in Pool (swimming)
3. Zumba (dancing)
4. Yoga
5. Tennis
6. Gym (holding light weights)
7. Drink in hand, sitting down, relaxing
8. Holding a vertical pole
9. Eating
10. 3 Pirate Variations (include any of the following: eye patch, pirate hat, wooden leg, sword, belt, telescope, hook for hand). All 3 must have different accessories.
11. Surprised
12. Doctor with stethoscope
13. Surfing
14. Snorkeling
15. Golf
16. Relaxing on a Lounge Chair
17. Breakfast in Bed.
18. Face and Hands peeking behind a sign.
19. Wearing a Mexican sombrero
