Contest Brief

Last year I created a one-off role playing campaign that had everyone working together as the same person, voting for the next action to be taken. They also acquired some inventory after solving some riddles.

One of the items acquired was an Egg, and for whatever reason they were enamored by this egg. It was supposed to be a very small side item, insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but this crew wouldn't let bad eggs die...

As a result, the campaign became wildly derailed and became focused on keeping The Egg alive more than the character themselves. We ended on a cliffhanger, and it took me over a year to write a followup.

For this FIRST project, I'd like to be able to set a scene and see where your creativity takes you. This will be a single scene illustration. It doesn't need to be insanely detailed, and feel free to put your own spin on it. I honestly don't care what medium you use. 2D, 3D, watercolor, finger paint, digital or physical, I'll leave that completely up to you. I'll give you a prompt and we'll see what happens!

The goal is, once I pick a winner, that person would illustrate multiple more scenes. I'll set this up via freelancer.com

**This is important. I plan to pick a contest winner that will be able to illustrate even more. Please don't submit if you plan on this being a one-off contest**

Thank you for your interest, I hope to chat with you soon!

THE SCENE:

Your 737 plane (fancy, think Air Force One interior, not commercial) has crashed in a dense hillside forest, pointed downhill. Somehow you survived near the rear of the plane. You don't see anyone else nearby but you do see the cockpit door slightly ajar ahead, down the hill. There's also a food cart tipped over near the open emergency exit, and it looks to be dusk (or dawn?) outside. Outside the window you see fire and pieces of refuse burning amongst the forest shrubbery.

---

NOTES:

You (your perspective, rather) are inside the plane, near the back, still somehow strapped in. I don't necessarily expect to SEE the character (maybe arms and legs at most?) this campaign is from their viewpoint so imagine drawing what they see.

There are bathrooms behind you (not too important but mentioned)

Outside the nearest window you see there's barely any light (dusk or dawn) and there are multiple burning piles.

You can see the cockpit door busted slightly open straight ahead

There's also a food cart tipped over, slightly hanging out of the emergency exit door. It MUST be near the exit.

There are no other people nearby that you see.

---

ALSO TO CLARIFY: This $100 is FOR THIS IMAGE ONLY! If I like your art style and you are willing to continue to work for me I'll pay for each subsequent image. I want to pay a fair price, and this $100 is only for this contest. The plan is whoever wins is willing to continue working on the same project for many images to come.

I'm "rating" them by how accurate they are to the description I provided, not by how well I like the picture (or how technically "good" it is). I'll make my decision based on technical skill and style when it comes time, so don't be discouraged if you don't get 5 stars! If you don't I'll do my best to comment why, but mostly it's because the image doesn't fit the prompt.

I hope this is enough to get you started, you're absolutely welcome to ask me for more details if you need/want them. I'm very excited to see what comes from this, good luck!

edit: I will not "chat" or DM anyone. If you want to submit anything please do, and I'll happily leave comments on the submissions, but I won't direct message anyone.

    Congratulations to @Wardde!

Honestly everyone, it took us days to go through the entries and actually pick one. I plan to keep in touch with as many people as possible as there will be future projects as well!

Please go to https://bckr.st/egg/recap to not only read the recap from season 1, but join our discord as well!

I will be changing my username on freelancer. This was an account that was a result of a nearly decade old transfer, I have one that is the name I usually use online: @beckerist

I have to deactivate this account before I can reactivate that one, but if you join the discord you won't miss anything.

Thank you again to everyone, this was a blast and I am astounded at the available talent! I hope to see you all again soon!

    @beckerist / vw8116274vw

I'd also like to send a token of gratitude to those who placed, as well as a few others who helped with technicalities. You will probably see multiple winners, but for reference @Wardde was who received the contest prize.

    Congratulations @Vismantas, @ShapeWings, @Wardde, @Luzernex and @PabloTheRisso!

You five have been selected as the Top 5 candidates. I sent you a comment to each of your submissions, feel free to respond here or on your submission page (please no DM's) whether you are available to continue working for us on this project. If you can't, no harm and no foul, and that doesn't take you out of the running, but it certainly helps!

Again a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who participated! So many great entries, we literally spent HOURS trying to trim down the list. Even deciding among these last 5 is going to be incredibly difficult. Good luck to everyone and we will be seeing you again!

By the way, this username/account will be closed immediately following this contest as I will be using @beckerist as my handle. I'll make sure to let everyone who wants to be involved in future projects know.

    Thank you!

The CONTEST IS OVER! Every one of the submissions has been viewed. It will take me a couple days to go through them all. I plan to either message or comment to everyone to make sure that, if chosen, you would be available to continue to work on this project with me!

Thank you all for all the hard work. I honestly wish I could pay and hire everyone as a massive collaboration, but unfortunately this project only requires one artist.

This is going to be EXTREMELY difficult to choose. The amount of effort put in was incredible and the final products are amazing. I will make my decision sometime before Friday Nov 5th, possibly sooner depending on how quickly the finalists reply! Thank you all again, this has been extremely fun and I'll 100% be using this site again.

The goal of this contest is that whoever is chosen can continue illustrating scenes, resulting in a campaign/choose-your-own-adventure with basic direction. I plan to choose the winner based on the style/technique of their submission IF they would also like to continue drawing for the campaign. I'll send a message to every finalist to ask if they want to continue illustrating before I choose.

There are some awesome illustrations so far, I like a great lot. 36 hours left, good luck!

Thank you very much for being so attentive to all the participants, it is important for us that the CH takes into account the time we dedicate to our work.
I am sure that I say this in the name of all.

I see a few "going to eventually submit" submissions. If anyone has any question regarding the scene as it's set up, please reply to this and I'll gladly explain the vision further

Since this was literally just an orally told story, when I was telling/writing it I imagined the person sitting near the rear of the plane, looking forward (towards the cockpit). The engines would be on the side, they're probably sitting behind them, and the tail would be directly behind them

LOL pardon my terrible MSpaint plane ripoff, this is why I'm hiring someone to do the drawings for me ;)

      https://i.imgur.com/y5KyTeM.png

The green is roughly where the person was sitting, the red would be roughly where the emergency exit would be, and the cockpit is the very front where the pilots sit. This has to be an interior shot, but hopefully that explains the positions a little better. Let me know if you have any further questions, glad to assist!
