Device to design: A PCB which hosts 16 microphones and processes the input, then forwards the processed audio stream to a computer via USB port.
Requirements:
1. Microphone input: 16 channel digital MEMS microphones, soldered on the PCB, audio format is 16-channel TDM, a candidate is the InvenSense ICS-52000 microphone.
2. Signal Processing: the board has a reasonable signal processing capability, and is fully programmable using C language.
3. USB output: transmits the processed audio streams to a host computer, configurable USB output up to 16 channels / 48kHz. When plugged in, the computer recognizes the device as a standard multi-channel microphone array; no additional driver should be required for the computer.
4. Data synchronization: The device should be able to achieve
perfect bit-synchronization with the host computer, so that no glitch should occur when listening to the microphone inputs from the computer. This could be achieved by letting the device adjusting its own audio clock frequency according to the USB polling frequency.
