Building a Custom Wordpress Theme

I need a custom Wordpress theme that is chic, minimalist and allows publication/sorting/displaying by 'issues' or 'editions' -- this will be a monthly travel/dining/lifestyle magazine of sorts that is a fixed collection of content, coupled with more recent, fresh content that is updated on the platform once or twice a week at best.
The site will be photo-rich and each issue must be displayed in a slick and visually-exciting way overall, and I'll also need custom page templates for articles, author pages, and other types. There will not be a flood of content -- each monthly issue will be 25-30 pieces of content, and separate from that, there will be 8-10 other pieces.
Ultimately, this will be a membership platform after the first few editions are published, where readers would need to purchase access to future editions--such functionality would be good to build in from the beginning.
