Stagecoach Software Pty Ltd needs a senior RoR front end developer to build a major new website. This project is merely an audition to find the right developer.

The company is developing a website to contain statistical profiles of a particular industry in Australia. Our stack is Ruby on Rails 4.2, Ruby 2.2, Passenger 4 and MySQL 5.6. We run a 3 server configuration on Engine Yard with dedicated instances for our db, web app and utilities. Our database receives about 30,000 new rows per day through scraping operations (22 different scrapers using nokogiri).

Currently our team comprises 2 backend ruby developers and 1 front end developer, all located remotely and in different time zones. The project is managed via Basecamp and Slack. All code must be uploaded to github and approved by the lead developer before deployment.

We have about 16 M products in our database. Each product has a distinct id number. Our front end website must be able to display at least one image of each product. Currently we have 16.7 M images but many products have multiple images whilst others have none. Scrapers are obtaining more products and images every day.

Our website includes an admin section for internal use only. This project is to create an additional admin page that tabulates image counts by reference to product id’s to quantify products by number of available images according to the relevant MySQL table. The Rails table will contain 10 columns and approximately 10 rows. A script must be written to update the table on a daily cron.

This is one of a pipeline of projects in this enterprise. The project will be awarded to the developer who, in his or her application, demonstrates the greatest expertise in RoR front end development and enthusiasm for ongoing involvement in the company’s development of its public website. One day should be allowed for cloning of the environment on the developer’s own machine. Applicants must state how many hours per week they are available and from when.

The budget for this project is $330 AUD.
