I need a 20 lesson Linux Tutorial Course. The idea here is to give students a solid understanding of Linux. The goal is to get them to have the basics down really good, and also to touch on harder concepts, so when they see them in the field they will have a least some experience with them. Each lesson should have at least 5 labs, where the student will practice what they have learned on a test server, and have questions at the end (at least 20). There should be a hidden page name for the results to each lesson. At the end of the course a printable certificate should be displayed with the students name. I plan to certify student who complete the lessons, so its important to create this course in a way where you and I will be proud of students who complete this. This course should be specific to CentOS, and cover command line only, no X windows). Each lesson should contain, text, code, and screen shots. Each lesson needs to be at least 1000 words. Commands (should include but not neccessarily be limited to): cd ls;ls -al;ls -i mkdir rm mv cp grep less head tail man top cat netstat whois uname vi pico host nslookup traceroute arp df du dmesg date clear exit reboot halt shutdown chmod chown chgrp wget lynx lsof strace history whoami hostname pwd su wc sort service ps ping kill killall locate updatedb touch chattr rpm yum mail write wall w finger nohup sudo scp rsync find replace sed awk ssh user@ip tar gzip unzip ifconfig passwd which whereis chkconfig mount fdisk e2fsck The latter topics should cover harder items such as: shell scripting using awk & sed Common files, directories should be covered, IE: /etc/hosts /etc/[url removed, login to view] root level directories, /etc, /var, /usr, /tmp, /root, etc .ssh/ .bashrc .profile known_hosts /etc/[url removed, login to view] /etc/[url removed, login to view] /etc/passwd /etc/shadow /etc/rc3.d /etc/init.d AdditionalTopics: absolute and relative paths, using ./ and ../ Use of |, > and >> How to escape characters such as "\ ", or \" checking for version(IE. /etc/redhat-release,php -v,perl -v) environment variables, IE: export TERM=xterm running a process in the background with & basic system hardening using yum (yum update, upgrading the kernel with yum) using rpm (rpm -qa, rpm -e, rpm -ivh) basic log reading (IE. /var/log/messages, /var/log/secure) basic for loop, ie: for i in `ls`;do cat $i;done basic regular expressions
