help me set up a sandbit copy of my website for testing purposes

has an online event registration plugin called EE3. the manufacturer are about to release a major upgrade to EE4.

They have suggested that I set up a " sand pit " test version of my website so that i can see how the new plugin reactions on my website before I make the changed to my live site.

I was recommended to use plugin called duplicator to make a full working copy of website appear at another location. I installed this plugin and was able to to make the backup files.

I have tried without success to get a local copy working on my home pc via the use of a program called mywordpress.

The other option seems to be to make a 2nd copy on my website server.

I ftp uploaded the duplicator zip file and the [url removed, login to view] file into a new folder made in my root directory called testsite.

I navigated firefox to the [url removed, login to view] file located here and then followed the prompts.

I also opened up my SQL database maker via the c panel and created a new empty database called amsncomaWp__2 ( or something like that)

I now have a new copy running on [url removed, login to view]

So whats the problem ?

Making some good progress now.

I am trying to make a duplicator copy of my website

cory I followed your instructions you suggested on the faq and online resources.

I was able to upload the duplicator files and zip file to testsite in my servers public htlm folder.

I then opened the [url removed, login to view] with firefox and followed the prompts.

I then created a new SQL database via the sql manager of my website with full read/write privileges.

I entered the user name and database name in the install panel on the replicator.

My site now appears as a copy at [url removed, login to view]

I am able to log on to the testsite. At at first glance it appears all is well.

However !

When I try and edit a page on my testsite it diverts to this page.

[url removed, login to view]

and the changes to the page is not saved.

I am able to successfully get wordpress to connect to the new database I created called amsncoma__wp2. I created a new user name and password and gave it full read write privileges.

curiously when I dial into the SQL part of my page it states that the wp2 database is empty ( image attached . yet the subfolders that are in wp1 appear when I open this database.

( surely if the data base was empty my wordpress site copy would not be up and running. I double checked the [url removed, login to view] file and it was def pointing to amsncoma__wp2.)

I have also attached a copy of the dulpicator install incase this info is helpful to you

Any ideas how I can proceed to trouble shoot this or what steps I should try from here ?

Should I try re-install with getting duplictor to create a new database rather than try and make one from the the my sql panel on my cpanel ?

So Naumeer in nutshell i need some help

either

A) get this backup copy of wordpress working as testbed where changes to the website are actually saved

or

B) start over with entire new system that your familiar with that allows me to try changes on website before the system goes live and also backups to a newer copy of my installation.

I would also that you give me a little bit of support afterwards by email or skype to explain to me what you did and how I can update future copies of my wordpress installation to a test bed installation.

I am a bit nervous about posting access codes on freelancer and would prefer to email them to you if you accept ( I will do it anyway just in case )
