Add a directory to an existing Joomla 3.6.x site

I have an existing Joomla 3.6.x site. On my previous Joomla site I had Sobi2 installed to allow users to add entries into an archaeology Field School directory (you can see the old directory here: [login to view URL]). I would like to add a modern directory to my 3.6.x Joomla site to allow users to do this. The directory must be easy to navigate (and maintain). I will want the entries to display as a category list with this information
