Add AJAX Portfolio Popup to Wordpress Theme (Rather than page reload)

Hey guys,
We are currently about to upgrade the design of our website and are going to use the theme below but would like to make a modification to the portfolio. Currently when a portfolio item is clicked, it reloads the page and you go to the portfolio item you have clicked on. Like a traditional website.
This is, however, a one-page theme, but portfolio items click to separate pages. I've confirmed with the theme author that this theme does not support AJAX Portfolio's out of the box, so we need to do it ourselves.
