Goal: Instrumentation for Automated Testing
Instrumentation of any program is an important step towards automated software testing
and program analysis. Depending on the objectives, a typical instrumentation may inject
some commands into the program in order to enable the tester capture required
information or trace the execution of the program.
Task:
You will develop a program that instrument a given program for the purpose of capturing
the execution trace of a test case. For instance, if a given program “A” has 10 statements,
then your instrumentation program instruments the program “A” and generates a new
instrumented program called “A’” by simply adding a simple command “print (line
number) ” into each statement. The injected command into A’ will output the exectution
trace of any given test case executed on A’.
Deliveries:
• The source code of your tool utility
• The snapshots of the execution of a test case on a given program showing the
executing trace of the program and the test case.
