Contest Brief

We're a new boutique vineyard specialising in reds and roses. We focus on quality over quantity and this will be our first ever release. The brief is to design wine bottle labels for our 2020 Malbec, but keep in mind being able to use the same or a similar design for other vintages.

The target demographic is 30-50 year olds who make too much money and want to show off to their friends.

The label MUST adhere to the standards outlined here: https://www.mpi.govt.nz/dmsdocument/870-Guide-to-meet-grape-wine-labelling-requirements
Some of the required information is as follows but feel free to leave placeholders for any unknowns:
- allergens like egg, milk and fish are not present
- address: Aongatete Rd, Aongatete, Bay of Plenty
- lot identification N/A
- country of origin: New Zealand
- business name TBC
- alcohol percentage TBC
- number of standard drinks TBC
(13% ABV = 7.7 standard drinks for reference)

We don't have a specific brand name as such but we want to emphasise the letter X and we want to be a little bit cheeky with our branding. For example, 'naming' certain vintages things like "obnoXious", "eXclusive", "X-rated", "seXy", "eXceptional". Consider also showing a map of where the vineyard is on the back and using an X to mark the Bay of Plenty (where it is grown and made) - not mandatory though.

We're open to any colour palettes, fonts, designs etc. at this stage. Think about interesting wine labels you've seen - the use of foil, cutout, clear stickering, matte vs. gloss, landscape vs. portrait, printing on textured papers... not to say that these are all requirements - sometimes less is more. You're welcome to include a summary of any design elements used if needed. The labels will be professionally printed.

Submit as many entries as you like, perhaps playing with different 'X' words like those above or any others you can think of. Depending on entries, we may like to work with the winning contestant on creating a series of the chosen design (paid as we go) for other wine varieties.

ETA: A few notes based on entries:
1. Take note of the words used in this description: obnoxious, x-rated, exclusive... we're looking for something badass and edgy not fluffy and pretty. BIG. BOLD. EXCITING. EDGY. BADASS. ANARCHIC. ADULT.
2. Remember the target demo.
3. If you've ever seen a bottle of wine in real life you'll notice that the front is used to capture attention while the back has all the "need to know" info.
4. While a placeholder is ok for unknown information, the brief specifies "2020 Malbec". No need to put things like "red wine".. follow the brief.
5. Stop putting the map on the front. This is not the look we're going for.

Employer Feedback

“Sonja has some great design ideas and takes feedback on board to achieve the look we’re going for. It was really helpful to see multiple versions in order to compare design aspects. Turnaround time was good too.”

Thank you to all artists! I've really enjoyed seeing the concepts come through. There are about 5 standout entries so there's some shortlisting to do at our end. I'm out of town again until Monday but I hope to have a winner chosen by the end of next week. Thanks again for your patience and perseverance.

Note - contest is not guaranteed as it’s our first time using Freelancer and we’re not sure of the quality of work we’ll get coming in. Will consider changing if the standard of entries warrants doing so

I understand you but you will get lot more responses and better designs if you guaranteed it. Look at other contests and you will see the difference when it is guaranteed or not
