css help: trouble with word wraps and line spacing in a fixed width column.

I have been trying to adjust the line-height property but no success.
The line wraps with a lot of space between first and second lines, but normal space between the 2nd and third.
The page is in word press, so it has the WP style sheet and our custom css.
