Hi,
NOTE: First read carefully description then BID.
I’m trying to build an opt-in email list for my Print publication’s email newsletter. Then I’m going to use
the newsletter to market subscriptions for the print Publication.
The website for the publication is here:
The publication is for professional leaders in the Emergency Services field—specifically those that are
involved in patient care and transport before the patient is taken to a hospital. These Organizations
inlcude Fire Departments and Ambulance Transportation services in the U.S. and Canada.
Types of organizations:
Fire Departments
Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers- These may be private (for profit businesses) or not for
profit/government entities. They can be ground transport or air medical transport
The type of job titles that I’m looking for include:
EMS Chief
Fire Chief
Other Chief (Assistant Chief, or Chief of operations, Chief of training)
EMS Director
Captain or Lt. Commander
President
Owner
Medical Director
EMS Coordinator
EMS Supervisor
Instructors or Trainers
Target Market Size
There are about 1Million people involved in emergency response field in the United States.
There are 35,000 Fire Departments in the U.S.
There are about 20,000 ambulance transportation organizations in the U.S.
Assuming there are on average about 5 people in each organization that would like to target, the
universe is about 250,000 individuals.
Previous work
I set up virtual server through Rytech hosting and installed GSA email spider program.
I pulled emails from various sources including [login to view URL] Adminstration’s online database.
From that I had 50,000 or so names. I used the function that allows you to grab text around the email
address so I could possibly pick up titles.
I then used excel to sorted through the list to pick our any person’s email that was associated with a fire
department, was a fire chief, etc. Kind of cumbersome process. (I need to make sure that I only send
emails to the right people, otherwise that could be very bad for my publication’s reputation)
The 50,000 names was then shortened down to about 20,000 names.
I then took those names and sent them to a list cleaning company that takes out all the bad addresses
and honey pots, known complainers, etc.
I took those address and sent them an email to take a survey. Of the 10,000 about 30% opened the
email and 1,000 opted in. I’m still working on testing to see how many of those I can convert to paid
subscribers.
From the looks of things two items need to be accomplished: 1) Grow your existing list and 2) Convert those subscribers to paid customers. The best way for this to happen is to ensure the list adds value to subscribers while encouraging them to take action. I can most certainly help you achieve these goals as I have a Masters in Marketing Management and detailed knowledge of content and e-mail marketing. By checking out your site I immediately have a ton of ideas about how to make this list grow. -- Justin
