Clean up some javascript code

I have some javascript code (attached) that I would like cleaned up. I am using nested functions to control the pace of images being dissolved from one to the next. I need this to loop and run continuously, yet I am concerned about the resources needed as the nesting continues to build. I am looking for a better way to write this code.
