I have experience in creating many tools for AutoCAD with ObjectArx (c++, c# code) it is much more powerful than the lisp tool, it can interact with AutoCAD in a more intensive way. if you don't have a problem with source code in c++ , c# then I have some suggestions below:
- create a new command that runs on a CAD environment
- When running the command, an interface appears for the user to choose the type of material (this information is pre-created and saved as an XML file instead of excel). and has the option to add material type on the interface
- after selecting the material, the user can customize each parameter of that material
- then the user selects what needs to be redrawn and the tool will redraw directly on that drawing. Users can review the results directly on the drawing without having to open another drawing.
