The difference in cost between cribs and bassinets
Bassinets can be purchased new at a price point in the ballpark of one hundred dollars. Cribs tend to be a bit more expensive than that, with the minimum being roughly the price of a common, budget bassinet, with prices commonly several hundred dollars, and even over a thousand.
In choosing between the two, the parents must make decisions as to what exactly they are looking for, and what they're willing to pay. As mentioned above, bassinets are cheaper, but their construction is not as sturdy, and they are not good candidates for becoming something that is passed down from generation to generation. Cribs, while more expensive, will often last generations if they are of good quality.
Another thing to keep in mind is that bassinets are typically portable, while cribs are meant to be placed stationary in a single room. A couple that only intends to have one child may be better served by buying a bassinet, while, on the other hand, parents planning a larger family may want to consider making a larger investment in the superior sturdiness and longevity of a crib. Even if on a budget, thrifty parents can come across a nice, sturdy crib at an affordable price used.
