We have a Gulp script that we use to build our WordPress themes. We need someone to enhance the algorithm we're using to estimate the amount of effort put into writing a line of code. [login to view URL] One component of our script is creating a list of contributors, along with the amount of code they've contributed to the project. Ideally, we want the score to represent the amount of effort made by each contributor. This is the Gulp module we created to do that: [login to view URL] And here is the very basic way we're calculating contributor score: [login to view URL] Our current scorer makes some naive assumptions. It assumes the length of a line of code is the only factor that indicates how complex it is. We need you to make improvements to the scorer so that it more accurately estimates the amount of effort put into a specific line of code. Ideally, it should approximate how much time an average programmer would have taken to write the line of code. Possible factors: * What type of file is the line of code in? Perhaps Javascript/PHP code is worth more than HTML, CSS and LESS/SASS code? * Is the line of code actually a comment? * How complex is the line of code? A few things to keep in mind: * We're not trying to estimate the complexity of a given project, rather the relative contribution of each developer to a given project. * All contributions are made through Github Pull Requests. So they're all reviewed by our team. This means lines that are unnecessarily complex, low quality or unneeded will be rejected. So in summary, we need you to research the best way to judge the complexity of a line of code, then improve our scorer to estimate the amount of time/effort that has gone into each line of code.
