Context: I am trying to use MySQL to calculate exponential moving average (EMA) of closing prices of stock data. Project: From a table or a view with Share Code, Date, Closing Price, calculate the EMA for each row. EMA(Today) depends on the the EMA(Previous-Day), hence the complication. Key requirement: Whenever I add new data, I only want to include the raw data, so all my downstream calculations (including EMA) needs to be updated automatically. I am currently trying to calculate it using a view, but open to suggestions. Details (updated): There are distinct "CODE" and the EMA needs to be calculated for each code independently
