Make google maps work on ionic 4

I have a ionic 4 angular 7 project which has a google map part. There is a page where the program calls google map api using the ionic native google maps. My problem is that the map is not rendering in the div. THe sdk android api key is fine because i see it updating each time i consume the service. I tried the api key on another app and it works so i think there might be a problem in particular. I want to use the sdk , not the javascript api.
