Goal: I have an SNMP server running on a VM with a public IP. I have a series of networks (various clients) that I would like the device of those networks to report to that SNMP server. REQUIREMENTS Clients to connect to SNMP server via VPN Clients NOT to use VPN as a gateway Clients are NOT to be able to communicate between them via VPN CHALLENGE Clients may use identical IP ranges for their LAN (192.168.0.x) I am looking for someone with sufficient technical capability to provide guidance on the best way to implement this. 50% of this task is technical guidance with the other half assisting with implementation. The end goal is to add our client base to our SNMP server so that we can monitor all devices, but to do so in a secure manner so that we're getting the data we need, but it's encrypted (L2TP/IPSEC) and making sure that no client can use the SNMP server as a gateway to access another client's network. Hello, how are you doing ? 04/05/2022 Well, I know what you want to do and I did something similar in my time at DXC (former HP). There, We proposed to create a VLAN only for SNMP network. All clients and servers have been using this specific VLAN to SNMP traffic. This is the best way to this type of data. However, in your case, I don't understand one thing, these devices are not permitted to use more than one NIC ? They are using Linux? Where is The SNMP Server in your network ? DMZ? Dear According to the scenario you propose, the best solution is that at least the IP of the SNMP server is not in use within the client dependencies, in this way only one route to the specific host is generated via the active VPN. the second option would be, avoiding the VPN connection and performing a NAT with public addressing, for the opening of SNMP port 161, in this way the query will be made to the public IP + port, and it would not affect the internal distribution of the IP segment .

I currently work in a MSSP and have experience with LibreNMS. I can help you setup this SNMP traps to the client machines. How is the VPN build? If the client IPs are overlapping the Natting will need to be used. Normally you would pick a subnet of loopbacks and install them in client environment. This will help you manage the end units. Let me know if you need help with this.

Hi i can help you with this task i have done it before. We can use iptables to create a mapped network for your users. I mean use an unknow IP for everything without touch anything I only have one doubt: Did your SNMP server ask to the users or the users need to send traps to? I think we can solve this in 4 hours.
