This overall objective of this project is to operate an ipod mini from a remote control that has numbers 0-9 on it. I want to define a playlist of up to 99 files, each with a number: 01,02,03,04...97,98,99. I need to be able to enter the number of a file (e.g. 29) on the remote and have the ipod mini play it immediately. This is the overall objective. The main criteria of this project is that it has to be easy to use. There cannot be any extra button-pushing other than walking up to the mac ipod mini, turning it on and pushing the first button on the remote. ## Deliverables I will need to specify further with in dialogue with the coder on this point. I understand that more information here is most helpful, but I am not an I/T person. All I can reveal here is what I know, which may be incomplete... I will want to use a remote that can easily be programmed with the code that I require for the ipod mini. I'm not sure how to get code into a remote control. No clue there. I also knwo that it needs to work with the mac mini. I suppose this bit of information is pitifully scant, but once again, I don't know what's involved. All I know is what I want as a user, not as a technical advisor. I have done some research online and have come up with some informaiton on code for the communications protocol and microcontroller code, and have some good informaiton, but do not have what's required to put one together. I also need this particular project to produce a solution that I can easily duplicate. I.e., i want to get a remote that can operate an ipod as described above, but I also need very easily to set up another ipod wiht another remote to operate in the same fashion. 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Friday Apr 22, 2005 10:34:16 AM: I have been doing some additional research into the remote control for the ipod and have found that there may be (not sure) a couple hurdles that I did not see. First, I want to use the ipod with the battery-powered Altec Lansing inMotion iM3 portable audio system. See it at [login to view URL] What I've found is that the docking station has an IR sensor of its own and that when the ipod is inserted into the docking station, the IR sensor that is on the docking station is the one that operates the ipod volume, seek and power mode. Question that remains to be determined: If I attach a second sensor into the top of the ipod, expecting to be able to operate the ipod using the remote we develop, can we get it to operate in the way we want? Second concern/potential hurdle is that I have thought through a bit more what I ACTUALLY want the user to be able to do and it is this: walk up to the ipod that is already inserted into the portable audio system, turn on the ipod, hit up to 3 hot keys on the remote that will get the user to navigate through a few of the initial screens and then be able to start the recorded file (00 through 99) that they desire. Alternatively, if we could make it so that the ipod always turns on to the place where all 100 files are located and there is no need to navigate there through additional hot buttons, that is fine (actually, that would be best). I will be happy to furnish the winning bidder (for design and testing purposes, of course, to be returned to me when finished) with the portable audio system, an ipod, and anything else required (for example, if an additional remote aside from the one that comes with the audio system is required so that the developer can have access to the IR sensor that gets plugged into the top of the ipod, I can certainly supply that). In any case, I wanted to update this job with the additional information I had found. I'm still very interested in developing this, just wanted to make sure the requirements were completely clear. I originally set the limit at $1,000. If this informaiton brings you the bidder to the conclusion that you cannot complete it in that budget, please suggest a fair alternative that I can consider. If clarification is required, I can supply it tomorrow. I have an appointment soon and will not be back in until tomorrow. Thanks! ## Platform ipod mini A yet-to-be-determined remote control (see <[login to view URL]> for a remote that is currently set up to run on the ipod mini. The remote woudl work fine if it had the functionality that is required.
