Creation of a plugin or cron-script for use on Wordpress 2.7.1 sites, similar to Pingcrawl from [login to view URL] idea behind the project is:1. Get X number of random existing posts from a site (also be able to choose between a date range with regards to the current date, like all posts from Y days ago, or all posts in general)2. Get the first N tags for a post, search for other posts like that in other blogs, add L links at the bottom of the post under the title "Related posts: " and ping the corresponding blogs.(so far it's pretty much identical to pingcrawl)3. After D number of days, go back to the posts and delete the Related posts section along with the [login to view URL] grabbing a post for processing, make sure it doesn't already contain a section of Related [login to view URL] able to set the script to work automatically. So that for example, every day or every hour, grab 10 random posts posted within the day (make sure all 10 don't have a related posts section) and do the pinging. Also check which posts have been processed and contain the "related posts: " section and if they've been processed (updated) more than D days from now, remove the related posts section. Alternative, you can use another db to keep track of the posts but probably searching the db for posts containing the "related posts" string and comparing their update date with the current date is [login to view URL] code for the pingcrawl script can be found on [login to view URL] interface is required, parameters can be constants defined in the script, although a UI integrated with WP would be really [login to view URL] is also OK if it's broken up into two cron-based scripts (easier) one to add the related posts section and another to check dates and remove [login to view URL] open to other suggestions of how this thing can be implemented if cron overcomplicates things, or if my current specification does not take advantage of certain WP features or libraries.
