Hello and thank you for the invitation to bid on your project. I fully appreciate your frustration with even minor errors being missed by supposed highly qualified proofreaders. This is clearly an important project. Freelancer don't allow us to attach samples of work with our bids, and is a short extract of someone's triply checked work really a true reflection of their skills? Though I know several others dislike doing a specific sample, I have no objections. I feel it is important you know from the onset if the work is of the standard you need (error free) and if three or four Freelancers do the same extract, you get a fair comparison and also get an understanding of the way each proofreader works. Don't be misled by my 98% pass in US English 3 - it is nothing to brag about as for some bizarre reason it is an easier test than the UK English 1 exam. That is backed up by the fact very few Brits are able to pass the UK 2 English exam as that is grammar based-rather than just a spelling test. I understand you've been disappointed with the quality of the proofing so 1) I can give you the contact details of the Paris-based firm for a reference if you require. 2) I can give you a sample if you send me a portion of your text that I will proofread (I don't have a before and after sample to give you because all the proofreading I do is online via the firm's website interface) British born, I have 2 Bachelor's degrees (English language and literature, Marketing) with the excellent attention to detail most would call 'pernickety' but that is essential for a proofreader. I work from home full time in the UK and can be contacted very easily by email, the website or Skype (julie pye – pic of squirrel). I can usually re-prioritize other work to get yours done faster if urgent however for such a large project, I'd prefer to spread it out over a number of days so as to fully impregnate myself with the vocabulary and tone to make sure the finished text is as consistent as possible. I'd like to begin with some plain old-fashioned honesty...I wasn't an English or journalism major in college although I did so love the subjects! If you're looking for someone who was, keep on looking. If, however, you are looking for someone who is well-spoken, creative, knows how to spell, and goes above and beyond the call of duty by noticing even the smallest details, you've found her. To make it simple and possibly obnoxious (((wink-wink))), I am the person who relishes in pointing out the misspelled menu item over lunch with a friend or the glaring error on a billboard while driving down the highway!!! In all seriousness, I am sure it must be terribly frustrating finding a proficient freelancer. One thing I would like to say that has been invaluable to me for concise proofreading and editing is to print a hard copy. Yep, I use old-fashioned pen and paper!
