I've tested the entire Physical layer of WiMAX 802.16D OFDM communication system in MATLAB and implemented it in realtime (in Altera 3C25 FPGA). I've also simulated Radio Over Fiber simulations (both OFM and IM-DD).
You can implement part of the wireless system (like say Error correction performance over noisy channel or show how length of fiber affects the system in a Radio Over Fiber system) or implement an entire wireless system (both encoding and decoding). I'll be able to assist you better once i know the time frame and budget. The budget i've given is an estimate to implement part of the communication system.
Results: If you implement part of the system, then you will simulate how that system behaves over noisy channels. Error correction codes like viterbi decoder / turbo decoder will show you the Bit Error Rate(BER) w.r.t Signal to Noise (SNR). If it's the entire system, then you can show the demodulation curves, the error correction output and show the packet received vs. packet sent data over a noisy channel.
