I think that problem should be not in the plugin settings, but with the php and mail settings of your hosting. Choose me and let't solve your problem together:)

I have faced similar problems on my sites and solved it. Do you mind if I change to another plugin? Or I also use a php free component with a high level of security to stop spam.
